Bio Dr. Erasmo A. Passaro, MD is Director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program and Clinical Neurophysiology Laboratory at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg which he started in 2002, the founding Director of the Florida Center for Neurology, and attending Neurologist at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital also in in St Petersburg, FL. Dr. Passaro is internationally recognized for his work and experience in the medical and surgical treatment of epilepsy. His current clinical and research interests include understanding epilepsy networks through behavioral semiology of epileptic seizures correlated with MR imaging sulcal anatomy, stereo-EEG and MRI identification of cortical dysplasia. He has been an investigator for numerous investigational drug trials, and his clinical work includes outpatient epilepsy evaluations, presurgical video-EEG monitoring evaluation of epilepsy patients (using non-invasive and invasive EEG, including stereo-EEG), and intra-operative and extra-operative functional brain mapping. Dr. Passaro received his medical degree from Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ. He competed a 1-year internship in internal medicine at UCLA-San Fernando Valley Program (now UCLA-Olive View), a residency in neurology at UCLA/Reed Neurological Institute, and a 2-year fellowship in epilepsy/clinical neurophysiology at UCLA with Dr. Jerome Engel. Dr. Passaro then established the Tampa General Hospital Epilepsy Surgery Program and, 3 years later, assumed the position of Assistant Professor of Neurology and Director of the Adult Epilepsy Laboratory and the Functional Brain Mapping program at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is board certified in epilepsy, neurology, clinical neurophysiology, neuroimaging, and sleep medicine. Dr. Passaro is a recipient of the Epilepsy Foundation of America Research Fellowship, is a fellow of AES, AAN, ACNS and AASM, and has served on the course committee and scientific program committee for ACNS, the course committee and scientific program committee for AES, the scientific program committee for the American Society of Neuroimaging, and the board of directors for the American Society of Neuroimaging, Bayfront Health, St Petersburg, FL and the Suncoast Epilepsy Association. He has been voted by Castle Connolly Best Doctor's in America 12 years in a row.
